Why You Should Add DoFollow To Your Blog

8 June 2007 ~ 2686 Views

I have been reading about ways in which you can improve your Google page rank. One way is to leave a comment on a blog with your website or blog URL added to the optional ‘website’ field in the comment form.

As of now, for every comment you leave here on Jo’s Web an outgoing link will be added from my site to yours.

The vast majority of blogs don’t allow this, mainly because their blogging software has “rel=nofollow” automatically added to comment URLs. Initially this was to combat spam, but with today’s spam protection I rarely get any spam comments through.

So I’ve installed a nice little plugin that removes the “nofollow” code. I have used the DoFollow plugin from Kimmo Suominen. It’s very straightforward to implement for those using WordPress to power your sites.

Alternatively, check out Andy Beard’s definitive list of all things DoFollow.

When you have installed your plugin take a trip over to Randa Clay Design and download one of her “I Follow” buttons to let others know that you appreciate your commenters by giving them some link love!

Many thanks to Lemort for the pic.

We’ve done the same with our news blog. Nice looking site by the way.

Its ironic that many bloggers talk about this but then they actually use no follow.

It struck me today that if everyone was to start using nofollow then ultimately nothing would get indexed. It has got to be a bad idea. Good to see you bucking the trend.

    Love the site btw.

I’m still undecided whether or not to ‘dofollow’ my site. So many dofollowed sites seem swamped with spammy comments.
Have you ever any experience with the Link Love plugin listed on Andy’s site?

Yeh Bape I do agree with you, it’s so funny that I see a lot of blogger talking about “u comment I follow” No follow Free” discussing it’s benefits when actually their own page is a no follow. Really ironic. isn’t?

When leaving comments on pages with plugins like the one you mentioned, I still have problems commenting. Even when leaving legitimate non spam comments, it won’t let me comment because of the plugins. Is it the same with the plugin you mentioned?
