WordPress Plugins

12 June 2007 ~ 947 Views

For today, I though I would write about WordPress plugins. I’ve spent the last couple of days scouring WordPress for plugins and I’ve come across some good ones that I would like to share with you. I’m quite sure seasoned bloggers already know of them and could even suggest new ones to me (please do)!

Firstly, I wanted to fancy up my comments section so I looked for a plugin that would let me add gravatars. I must admit I tried quite a few with unsuccesful results and a lot of hard work. I eventually came upon MyAvatars – This plugin allows you to add MyBlogLog.com avatars to WordPress comments.
I then wanted to add a check box so that commenters could follow up their comments so I added: Subscribe To Comments.
Finally, I added Do Follow. It will disable the automatic rel=”nofollow” attributes added to external links. You may want to do this if you have good spam filtering for your comments, or if your blog is moderated. Optionally you can also set a comment age limit for adding the attributes.
That’s my comments section finished – for now any way!

For my posts, I needed to find a way to store my pictures as I am planning to show large images of my Photoshop work and tutorials, I needed the space so I found a great plugin called Image Shack. ImageShack is a free easy-to-use hosting service which allows you to upload your images and share them with others. You can embed these images directly into your website and use the auto generated thumbnails.

For image enlargements I use Lightbox and Thumbnail Viewer.

A couple of extras that I think are pretty cool is the plug-in for my Contact Form. This powerful yet easy-to-install contact form features exceptional accessibility and usability while still providing extensive anti-spam and anti-exploit security features. A marriage of communication and peace-of-mind.

Popularity Contest, enables ranking of your posts by popularity; using the behavior of your visitors to determine each post’s popularity. You set a value (or use the default value) for every post view, comment, etc. and the popularity of your posts is calculated based on those values.

You might also want to try reading up wordpress hosting reviews on the net.
