Reflect Your Text

final reflection

Here’s an easy way to make it appear as if your text is reflected. I have seen many logos around at the moment which use this technique, including my own! It’s a really easy tutorial and once you have mastered the basics is open to many creative possibilities.

original
1: Create a new document, choose your font style and type away.
2: Duplicate your type layer by dragging the original text layer onto “create a new layer” in your layers palette.
3: Select Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical.

4: After you have positioned your text under the original, we want to create the faded effect. Again on your layers palette click on the “f” (add a layer style) and choose “gradient overlay”.

6: Make sure that your gradient is set to foreground to transparent. You can do this by double clicking on the “gradient overlay” tab. You will then get a box like the one below. Double click on the gradient which will open in a new window, this is your gradient editor. Choose foreground to transparent, which should be one of your default gradients.
You can also choose a black to white gradient and then check the reverse box. Just experiment a bit!

7: Back on your layers palette you can now play with the opacity of this layer. I set mine to 27%.
8: Da Da! This technique can also be used to create a reflection on images such as my example here.
