Graduated Retro Art

6 December 2007 ~ 2015 Views

Here’s a really simple way of creating a retro feel to your images.
1: Take an image of someone and apply Image > Adjustments > Threshold.
Find your desired effect and click ok.
2: Next, select Filter > Stylize > Diffuse and click the anisotropic button.
3. Finally add Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask, to help make the image sharper.

4: Now create a new layer over your original and add a gradient, switching the blend mode to hard light. Or simply play with your gradients until you reached your desired effect.
5: That’s it!

Very easy and cool effect. But how did you get her face to remain white and the gradient to be behind her? When I tried this it made everything gradient and I couldn’t fgure out how to get a white face….even with various attempts at layering.
