Sir Anthony Hopkins Art Exhibition

19 February 2010 ~ 716 Views

The collection of 50 paintings by the Oscar-winning Welsh actor are being shown at Gallery 27, Cork Street, London until Saturday February 20. It consists of 38 paper and seven acrylic canvasses as well as five limited-edition prints, which will be available for purchase.

Jonathan Poole, who is promoting the exhibition, said:”His technique is to use a palette knife to make thick, swooping strokes with gobs of paint. His work is painterly, wild and vibrant and is generous with its motion and use of colour.

“Sir Anthony takes his artwork very seriously and I have the utmost respect for both his artistic and acting abilities.”

The Remains of the Day actor, 72, was convinced by his wife Stella to start painting after she saw his doodles on film scripts.
He has said of his artwork: “When I paint, I just paint freely without anxiety regarding outside opinions as criticisms. I do it for sheer pleasure. It’s done wonders for my subconscious – I dream now in colours”.

The collection will then move to The Dome in Edinburgh on March 2 for four days.
