Adding Twitter To My Site

15 June 2010 ~ 831 Views

I have recently had more time to look into the wonderful world of tweeting on Twitter, I must say that it is becoming very addictive indeed! I thought that I would share with you some of the WordPress plugins that I have used and other interesting bits and bobs that I have found around the net.

Twitter Tools
Twitter Tools is a plugin that creates a complete integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account.
* Archive your Twitter tweets (downloaded every 10 minutes)
* Create a blog post from each of your tweets
* Create a daily or weekly digest post of your tweets
* Create a tweet on Twitter whenever you post in your blog, with a link to the blog post
* Post a tweet from your sidebar
* Post a tweet from the WP Admin screens
* Pass your tweets along to another service (via API hook)

Twitter Digest
Twitter Digest is a WordPress plugin that creates a daily or weekly post containing tweets from a twitter account.
* Automatically polls specified Twitter account and creates a post shortly after midnight which contains the previous days tweets
* Display tweets in chronological or regular (Twitter) order
* Tag tweet digest posts automatically
* Customize the title of tweet digest posts
* Select the author and category for tweet posts

Twittar
Twitter Avatar In Comments loads user’s avatar by matching the email address to the user’s Twitter email address.
* If user doesn’t have a Twitter account, it first tries to load user’s gravatar. If user doesn’t have a gravatar, it loads a default image. This is an optional setting.
* You can set a 2-pixel border to the images (you choose the color).
* You can choose the size: we suggest 24, 48 or 72 pixels.
* You can set an image other than the default one to load if a user doesn’t have a Twitter account or a gravatar.
* It builds a valid image for you (with alt and title attributes, etc.) based on user details.
* Allows you to add a class to the image, so you can style it later.

Tweetmeme
The TweetMeme retweet button is for website and blog publishers who want to encourage their audience to tweet their content on Twitter. The button shows a live count of the number of times your webpage or blog post has been tweeted.

Twitter Goodies
Twitter offers its own widgets for use on your site, these include:
Profile Widget: Display your most recent Twitter updates on any webpage.
Search Widget: Displays search results in real time! Ideal for live events, broadcastings, conferences, TV Shows, or even just keeping up with the news.
Faves Widget: Show off your favorite tweets! Also in real time, this widget will pull in the tweets you’ve starred as favorites. It’s great for moderation.
List Widget: Put your favorite tweeps into a list! Then show ‘em off in a widget. Also great for moderation. I have used this for my live creative inspiration feed.
Twitter For Facebook: Allows you to share your most recent Twitter updates with your Facebook friends.
